First Actual Sewing Blog

You don't know how many times I have tried to create blogs that are around the state of sewing, but they have always fallen into the beauty and lifestyle classification and you can't really reinvent a blog can you. You just create a new one. So here I am. On blogger again creating a blog to help me during Covid19 2020 while I've been spending my wages on fabric, patterns and basically learning how to sew. Again

Theres two types of sewing I do:

Quilting and Dressmaking.

Quilting sort of got me serious, because all though I've wanted to make clothes since I was a nipper I've never managed to finish one and quilting has so much more PROCESS to it that as you make it, it finishes itself.
With dressmaking you can sort of see it complete before it's complete. And it needs finishing touches before its fully complete. Hemming, buttons, hook and eyes. Bias bound.
And then there's fitting issues which is a whole new language all on its own. So if you want to get serious about making clothes, make a quilt.

There are certain things that you learn in quilting that absolutely aids the process of making clothes. The main one is sewing in a straight line. It's the basic of all creation on a sewing machine. So if you are struggling with this part of sewing, the key is to slow down and maybe make a quilt first.
The second one is precision. Once you have your seams straight and your sewing lines straight then nesting of seams and making sure the edges line up. You get to the point where pinning isn't necessary and you get faster on your sewing machine pedal.
So if you would like to get into sewing clothes, make a quilt first.

Resources.
The thing with any hobby, is that it costs money. Even walking costs money f you want to protect your feet. Not all of us have the luxury of a brand new machine, mine was gifted to me by my mother when I broke my leg.
I usually buy fabric from the local town market, but because I haven't been able to go to the market because of Coronavirus I have been buying a lot of fabric from online eBay websites. I will soon do a post after this, of all I've bought during lock down and all the online companies I have favourite-ed and bought from including their instagram and a personal rating and review.

Space

Sewing needs space, for a start you will need a sewing machine, and therefore a place to rest it. A good sturdy table is always nice. And if you have accumulated a good amount of fabric like I have then you will also want some space to cut fabric. I usually do it on floor, because my table isn't big enough to lay my fabric and pattern pieces and my sewing machine. Also I sew in our spare room so sometimes I actually enjoy tidying it as much as I like making a mess in it.

Knowledge
I have quite a few sewing books that I was gifted as a child when I first took an interest in sewing, and although I looked through them I don't think I had the emotional intelligence, maturity or focus to try any of the techniques, especially step by step like the pattern showed. I'm still a little like that today and very much like to figure things out on my own, but as I like to be shown how to do things YouTube was a big aid in my sewing discovery. I'll also do a blog post on Favourite YouTube videos and sewing community YouTubers that have some great resources and also pay homage to other bloggers. There was something however that I managed to get a glimps of, pattern cutting. I went to college for 9 months doing a fashion course and although it helped more than the average budding seamstress nothing can quite teach you than diving in and having a go yourself.
